Motivation for award: Witsieshoek is a beautiful place. It’s not just the scenery, but also the people of Witsiesheok whose warmth and loving kindness make it a firm favourite amongst visitors from around the world. Everyone at WItseishoek shares a love of the mountains and their famous Bearded Vultures. But most of all, Witsieshoke’s people love the hikers who come to share this special place.

Witsieshoek, Drakensberg

Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge is one of the great Drakensberg hiking destinations. It’s the place from which you complete the famous Sentinel Peak Trail which takes you up the Chain Ladders and on to the top of Tugela Falls – the highest waterfall in the world. There are over 80kms of hiking trails from Witsieshoek, making it a place to return to over, and over again.

Witsieshoek offers 4 different standards of accommodation from large en-suite Amphitheatre-facing rooms to backpackers with communal facilities. The central facilities include a dining room, pub, and lounge.
