Motivation for award: We are a weekly (Saturday) early trading market starting at 6.30am providing quality food, crafts and art sold by various local traders. We provide music for free at the main stage as well as the Village Theatre. We have a bar selling our own crafted gin and beer which is on tap. There are many activities for children such as riding the small Shongweni Express (train), pony rides, small fun fair and have held a Theatre production last Christmas in our Village – callled How to Train Your Human which was a huge success. We are also pet friendly. We literally are “Fun for the Whole Family”

Shongweni Market is not your average flea market. It is so much more than that. The food is fantastic and the crafters man their own stalls and are able to engage with the public at any level. The market is dog friendly and fully covered in wet weather. The grounds and stalls are well kept and the views are stupendous. Why would you want to be anywhere else on a Saturday morning? It’s our favourite place to meet friends and it’s the gem of KZN.
