Motivation for award: We are deeply committed to providing our guests with exceptional and memorable experiences while also preserving our environment for future generations. To achieve this, we have implemented a range of environmentally friendly initiatives. Firstly, we have partnered with the Sweethearts Foundation to collect plastic bottle caps, with the funds generated contributing to the provision of wheelchairs for those in need. We have extended this initiative to neighboring schools, encouraging them to participate. The winning class is rewarded with a Game Drive at Mjejane Bush Camp, fostering a sense of environmental stewardship from a young age. As a departure gift, we present our guests with a spekboom planted in a coffee pod, promoting awareness and encouraging them to plant it at home. Our fully functional Recycling Bay is used to sort all refuse according to category, with the collected plastic the recycling company uses it to make sustainable outdoor furniture for our lodge. Additionally, we compost ash from braais, raked leaves, and used tea bags from the office, using the compost for tree and spekboom planting. To conserve water, we collect rainwater using gutters and drain chains for irrigation and cleaning. We use a bucket method instead of a hose to wash vehicles, further reducing water usage. During World Water Day, guests receive rubber ducks instead of bath plugs, to raise awareness of how important water is, this symbolizes our commitment to water conservation. For Earth Hour, we switch off power and host stargazing evenings to raise awareness. Our lodge is equipped with a solar system for daytime electricity and backup batteries for nighttime power outages, ensuring minimal electricity usage. We donate old furniture and linen to community churches and creches, support local small businesses, and use environmentally friendly laundry detergents and cleaning supplies. These are just a few examples of our efforts to lower our carbon footprint and contribute to a sustainable future. We are continually exploring new initiatives to further reduce our environmental impact.
