Groot Constantia Wine Estate

SAs oldest wine-producing farm

The moment you enter Groot Constantia wine estate you’ll realise you’re in for a unique experience. This is South Africa’s oldest wine-producing estate, established by Simon van der Stel in 1685, and it is a certified national monument. What awaits you is a captivating culmination of South African heritage, delectable dining at two restaurants, a museum, a wine and gift shop, and, of course, an award-winning selection of wines, all available for tasting. The dramatic oak-lined avenue takes you directly into the Historical core of the estate, where you’ll find the 17th century Manor House, arguably the finest surviving example of Cape Dutch architecture in South Africa, and the view from in front of this grand old homestead will most certainly put you in the perfect mind-set to experience what is easily the Cape’s finest estate.

Groot Constantia gives you the chance to taste and purchase their award-winning wines at three locations on the estate. The popular wine and gift shop also offers a range of gifts and souvenirs to purchase. Wines can also be ordered for shipping to your front door by contacting Groot Constantia directly enquiries@grootconstantia.co.za

Things you can do at Groot Constantia:
– Visit one of three tasting rooms to sample and purchase a selection of Groot Constantia’s award-winning wines
– Do guided cellar tours and tastings, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the wine-making process
– Explore the vast estate on foot – there is a free Voicemap app offering three self-guided walking tours
– Dine at one of two celebrated restaurants – Jonkershuis and Simon’s at Groot Constantia
– Take a journey back in time and explore the grand Manor House museum and Cloete Cellar, which houses displays portraying early years on the estate
– Combine a visit to Groot Constantia with a tour on the hop-on, hop-off City Sightseeing busses

Groot Constantia offers two dining experiences:

Jonkershuis Restaurant
Jonkershuis at Groot Constantia is in the heart of the historical core of the estate and is perfectly situated between the grand oaks and pristine vineyards, with panoramic views across the estate towards False Bay. The menu is diverse and very accessible, with a strong Cape Malay influence. They are open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and light meals and drinks throughout the day. It’s also the perfect wine estate location for weddings, private functions, corporate events, and conferences.

Simon’s Restaurant
Simon’s at Groot Constantia is located in an old cellar that has been converted into a restaurant ideal for a superb alfresco lunch, or to dine-in at their new restaurant. Simons offers a range of dishes to suit all tastes, with everything from light lunches to magnificent dinners. It’s also a great location for large private functions, with seating for up to 400 guests.
