South Africa Tourism Awards

Type: Accommodation – Lodge
Category: Eco & Sustainable

Motivation for award: Bonamanzi is home to “The Big Four“, no Lion. We offer Game Drives on the Reserve which can be booked and paid for at Reception. There are a few roads open to guests to do self drives but these are limited to certain areas and do not cover the whole Reserve, the Route covers a portion of the Sand Forest and takes you down to a section of the Hluhluwe River. As one of South Africa’s premier birding destinations with over 406 birding species, we feel that its deserving of a top place in its category.

Region: Kwazulu Natal / Hluhluwe

Bonamanzi Game Reserve Pty Ltd

Touch the Wilderness

Bonamanzi is a privately owned Game Reserve, 4000 hectares in size with the Hluhluwe River forming our Eastern border. Proclaimed a Natural Heritage Site in 1995 in recognition of the biodiversity of the Reserve we offer Sand Forests, Savanna & Wetland Areas. This diversity is why Bonamanzi is recognised as one of the best birding destinations in Southern Africa. From the Eastern side of the Reserve we offer magnificent views over False Bay – on the Western side a Viewing Deck overlooking the Lalapanzi Dam where one can relax and watch the sun set.

We visited Bonamanzi for the first time over New Year with our young family. Having visited Kruger and many of the Lowveld reserves, we were blown away by the birding, cariety of vegetation types and peace at Bonamanzi and we cant wait to go back!

Bonamanzi is a gem on the KZN north coast, the staff are friendly and very helpful, it feels as if you are going away to your family for the weekend, they work incredibly hard to make sure you have a personalised and great time! We got to experience a rugby game in the Boma which was a brilliant experience, the fires at night are beautiful and the food is exceptional! Bonamanzi should be on everyone’s to do list! We will keep returning!

Congratulations on your nomination and I am sure you are going to win. Bonamanzi is one of South Africa’s top game reserves in both KZN and South Africa and from myself and other South Africans living in the Isle of Man, I can only wish you the best of luck.

Tania Saunders – 20.02.2022
For my nieces’ honeymoon we visited Bonamanzi as a group with international and local visitors. They, like ourselves, loved the game drives and the staff who knew the area and animals well enough to treat our visitors to the best of our country’s wildlife experiences. Good Luck

Geniene Preston – 20.02.2022
Great place for wildlife and their conservation efforts make a huge difference to our South African landscape. Game Reserves like Bonamanzi work hard to keep their lodges and reserves in pristine condition for local and international visitors alike. One of my favourite destinations. Keep it up!
